Humility And Humbleness – Ramzan, 5

Reading Time: 2 minutes
[Ramzan, 5] Welcome to day 5 of our Ramzan Writing Prompt Series.

Today we talk about humility and humbleness.

One of the first desired changes from someone who starts walking on the path of the deen is to develop humility and humbleness in himself. For some, it comes with practice, and to some, it is gifted by Allah. No matter which category you belong to, a person who conducts himself with humbleness is endearing to Allah.

“The servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth in humility, and when the ignorant address them, they say words of peace.”
(Surah Al-Furqan 25:63)

Look at the nature around you, and see how Allah shows us this beautiful trait in action. A tree that bears fruit will bow down with the weight of it. A person who starts striving for “ilm” (ilm mentioned in this series will specifically mean knowledge of the deen) will find that the more he gets knowledge, the more he doesn’t know. The heavily leafed tree will stand in the sun while giving shade to those under it. Most importantly, a person who humbles himself will become everyone’s favorite. You know why? Here why.

Allah’s law is: He will uplift the one who lowers himself in humility. When Allah loves someone, He puts love and respect for that person in other people’s hearts.

Prophet Muhammad (sallalaahu elehe waa aalihi wassallam) says, “Shall I not tell you about the companions of Paradise? They are every humble person considered weak, but if they gave an oath by Allah it would be fulfilled. Shall I not tell you about the companions of Hellfire? They are every harsh, haughty, and arrogant person.”

Lastly, one very important point to consider while discussing this: Sometimes, when we start getting “ilm”, we start thinking of ourselves as above all the rest. This most often happens without us giving a thought to it. Remember the time you were in their shoes. It was only Allah’s mercy that He brought you to His deen. He is the turner of hearts; He can turn their hearts just like He did yours.

Prophet Muhammad (sallalaahu elehe waa aalihi wassallam) says, “A man said: By Allah! Allah will not forgive so-and-so! Allah Almighty said: Who is he who swore by Me that I will not forgive so-and-so? I have forgiven him and nullified your good deeds.”

Ladies, let us cleanse not only our bodies, but our hearts and minds this Ramzan. Let’s evaluate ourselves today and ask Allah to help us rectify ourselves. The dua is a very powerful tool, when offered from the heart, Allah will surely help.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this very important and very, very vast topic.

May Allah keep you and protect you, and everyone you love.

Happy Writing!
