Contest Entry by Zainab Khan: ‘Lost & Found’

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Contestant Name: Zainab Khan

Topic: Lost & Found

Lost in her own world she cried her eyes out. Her prayers and prostrations never ended. She begged and begged for a man who was to be someone else’s.
What if he never comes back? What if he leaves me and never marries me?
All of a sudden the air became thick and she felt suffocated. Her heart sank deep into the well of sadness.
With swollen eyes and trembling hands she opened the Holy Book.
The first thing she saw was:
“But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you,
And perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you.
Allah knows, while ye know not.”
(The Quran 2:216)
Lost and found was the case. Perhaps we were never meant to be. Perhaps what I had been asking for tirelessly was never mine.
Lost in the love of a man who was never hers was a mistake. Prostrating longer in the love of a man was not the right choice. Allah had very easily taught her what belonged to Him was not to be given to others. The prostration was meant to be for Him. The crying in love should have been for Him alone.
She found the lost connection. The true love.
Realising the truth she kissed the Quran and now kept asking her Rabb for love-pure of any disgrace. Love that was hers solely. Love, He deserved solely.
