We are narrating the story of Hazrat Maryam (e.s.) as told in Surah Aal-Imran. This is Part 4.

Disclaimer: We will only talk about what Quran tells us, and the scope is Surah Aal-imran. There are multiple places where Hazrat Maryam (e.s.) is mentioned, yet we will stick to this particular Surah.

We are continuing from part 3 of The Story Of Maryam.

In the previous part, we saw in what circumstances did Allah gift the guardianship of Hazrat Maryam (e.s.) to Hazrat Zakariya (e.s.).

Hazrat Zakariya (e.s.) was also a messenger of the time and was blessed with wisdom and hikmah from Allah azzawajall. When little Maryam was brought to Solomon’s Temple according to her mother’s pledge to Allah, she came into the care of Zakariya. In this way, she had a chance to be guided in the best possible way spiritually.

As was Maryam (e.s.)’s name, she excelled in worship. She was humble and completely submissive to Allah azzawajall.

Hazrat Zakariya (e.s.) saw astounding qualities in her. He was most intrigued to see that a girl so small was blessed with wisdom far more than her years. But there was something else that surprised him also.

Allah azzawajall says in Surah Aal-Imran, ayat 37,

“So her Lord accepted her with good acceptance and caused her to grow in a good manner and put her in the care of Zakariya. Every time Zakariya entered upon her in the prayer chamber, he found with her provision. He said, “O Maryam, from where is this [coming] to you?” She said, “It is from Allah . Indeed, Allah provides for whom He wills without account.””

Hazrat Maryam (e.s.) had a praying chamber that was private to her. Only her guardian, Hazrat Zakariya (e.s.) was allowed to enter it.

Oftentimes, Zakariya would see that their lay strange fruits besides little Maryam. These fruits were not familiar, and they seemed to be from far off lands. Sometimes, there were fruits from a different season also. This surprised Zakariya to no end, and he often asked little Maryam where she got them from.

Maryam, so full of wisdom at even a young age, would reply that they were from Allah, and that Allah blesses abundance of rizq to anyone that He chooses.

Scholars have discussed and debated on what these “fruits” were. The Arabic word used for this is “rizq” which translates to “provision” in literal terms. There are two schools of thought:

1. This rizq or provision can be wisdom and knowledge. Zakariya (e.s.) was astounded to see so much wisdom in such a young child and questioned her with wonder, where did she get all her wisdom from; to which she replied, it was all from Allah.

2. Or, this rizq or provision can be food of strange kind or in astounding abundance, and upon asking, Maryam would tell him that this rizq/food was all from Allah.

Either way, Zakariya (e.s.) was convinced that this little girl who was sent to his guardianship by Allah was someone very special. She was meant to play a wondrous part in the deen of Allah.

Hazrat Zakariya (e.s.) was in wait for a child since long. He and his wife were very old, and they had had no luck in having a child of their own.

Seeing this little girl with abundant gifts from Allah, something in Hazrat Zakariya’s (e.s.) heart stirred. He decided to ask Allah again for a pious child.

• Hazrat Maryam (e.s.) was given the best nurturing under Hazrat Zakariya’s care.

• Hazrat Zakariya often found little Maryam with strange gifts in abundance.

• Hazrat Maryam (e.s.) told him that all gifts are from Allah and Allah blesses whoever He chooses.

[رمضان، ۱۲] رمضان سیریز کے بارہویں دن خوش آمدید.

ہم حضرت مریم کی کہانی کا ذکر کررہے ہیں کہ جسے سورہ آل عمران میں بیان کیا گیا ہے. یہ کہانی کا دوسرا حصہ ہے.

انتباہ: ہم صرف قرآن میں موجود بیان پر بات کریں گے، خاص طور پر سورہ آل عمران سے منسوب. گو کہ مریمؑ کا تذکرہ متعدد جگہ کیا گیا ہے، مگر ہم اس مخصوص سورہ کے حوالے سے بیان کریں گے.

ہم تیسرے حصّے سے کہانی کو جوڑیں گے۔

پچھلے حصّے میں ہم نے دیکھا کہ کیسے خدا نے مریمؑ کی کفالت حضرت زکریاؑ کو سونپی۔

حضرت زکریاؑ وقتِ حا ضر کے پیغمبر تھے اور خدا کی طرف سے بہترین حکمت اور ذہانت کے مالک تھے۔ جب مریمؑ کو ان کی ماں کے عہد کے مطابق سلیمانی مندر لایا گیا تو ان کا کفیل زکریاؑ کو مقرّر کیا گیا۔ اس طرح ان کی روحانی تربیت بہترین ہاتھوں کے میں ہوئی۔

مریمؑ اپنے نام کی طرح عبادت گزار تھیں۔ وہ بہت حلیم اور خدا کی بندگی میں سرشار رہتی تھیں۔

حضرت زکریاؑ نے آپ کے اندر حیران کُن خصوصیات دیکھیں۔ اُن کے نزدیک سب سے حیرت انگیز بات یہ تھی کہ اتنی چھوٹی بچی عقل و فہم میں اپنی عمر سے کئی سال آگے تھی۔ لیکن کچھ اور بھی تھا جس نے انہیں چونکا دیا تھا۔

اللہ تعالیٰ سورہ آلِ عمران آیت نمبر ۳۷ میں فرماتا ہے:

تو پروردگار نے اس کو پسندیدگی کے ساتھ قبول فرمایا اور اسے اچھی طرح پرورش کیا اور زکریا کو اس کا متکفل بنایا زکریا جب کبھی عبادت گاہ میں اس کے پاس جاتے تو اس کے پاس کھانا پاتے (یہ کیفیت دیکھ کر ایک دن مریم سے) پوچھنے لگے کہ مریم یہ کھانا تمہارے پاس کہاں سے آتا ہے وہ بولیں خدا کے ہاں سے (آتا ہے) بیشک خدا جسے چاہتا ہے بے شمار رزق دیتا ہے ﴿۳۷﴾

حجرت مریمؑ کا ایک عبادت کے لیے مخصوص حجرہ تھا۔ صرف اُن کے سرپرست حضرت زکریاؑ کو داخل ہونے کی اجازت تھی۔

اکثر وہ دیکھتے کہ مریمؑ کے سرہانے کچھ عجیب سے پھل رکھے ہوتے۔ یہ پھل انہوں نے کبھی نہیں دیکھے تھے اور ایسا لگتا تھا کسی دور دیس سے لائے گئے ہوں۔ کبھی کبھی بے موسم پھل بھی ہوتے۔ یہ بات زکریاؑ کو حیران کردیتی اور وہ پوچھتے کہ یہ پھل اُن کے پاس کہاں سے آئے ہیں۔

مریمؑ، اپنی سمجھداری سے جواب دیتیں کہ یہ خدا کی طرف سے آئے ہیں، اور وہ جسے چاہے بے پناہ رزق سے نوازتا ہے۔

علماء نے تبصرہ کیا ہے کہ وہ پھل کیا تھے۔ عربی میں اس کے لیے رزق کا لفظ استعمال ہوتا ہے کہ جس کے لفظی معنی “مہیّا کرنا” ہے۔ یہاں دو خیالات ہیں:

۱۔ یہ رزق ذہانت اور علم ہوگا۔ حضرت زکریاؑ کم عمری میں اتنی ذہانت دیکھ کر حیران ہوئے اور دریافت کیا کہ یہ علم کہاں سے آیا جس پر مریمؑ نے جواب دیا کہ یہ اللہ کی طرف سے ہے۔

۲۔ یا یہ رزق یا کھانا مختلف قسم کے پھل تھے جو کبھی کسی نے نا دیکھے تھے اور پوچھنے پر مریمؑ نے کہا کہ خدا نے اُن کے لیے بھیجے ہیں۔

دونوں صورت میں ہی زکریاؑ نے دیکھا کہ یہ بچی جو ان کی کفالت میں ہے بہت خاص ہے اور خدا نے اسے دین کی کسی اہم خدمت کے لیے بھیجا ہے۔

حضرت زکریاؑ بے اولاد تھے اور وہ اور اُن کی زوجہ سالوں سے اس خوشی کے انتظار میں تھے اور اب کافی بوڑھے ہو چکے تھے۔

اس خاص بچی کو دیکھ کر زکریاؑ کو کچھ خیال آیا اور انہوں نے خدا سے ایک نیک اولاد کی دعا کرنے کے بارے میں پھر سے سوچا۔

پھر کیا ہوا؟

جاری ہے۔۔

آج کے دن ہم نے سیکھا:

· مریمؑ کو زکریا ؑ کی صورت میں بہترین تربیت حاصل ہوئی۔

· حضرت زکریا اکثر مریمؑ کے سرہانے عجیب سے پھل اور تحفے دیکھتے۔

· حضرت مریمؑ انہیں کہتیں کہ یہ سب خدا کی طرف سے ہے اور وہ جسے چاہے عطا کرتا ہے۔
