Welcome to Day 19 of the Ramzan Series 2020. We are the Hijri 1441 of the Islamic calendar.    

Today and in the few following days, we will be going through few ayaat from Surah Araaf.

Allah says in Surah Araaf, ayat 46,

And between them will be a partition, and on [its] elevations are men who recognize all by their mark. And they call out to the companions of Paradise, “Peace be upon you.” They have not [yet] entered it, but they long intensely.

The Day of Judgment is that when Allah will give verdict on our deeds. Our good deeds and bad deeds will be weighed. Those whose good deeds outweigh their bad deeds will enter Jannah. Whereas those whose bad deeds will outweigh their good deeds will have jahannum as their final destination. 

“And the weighing [of deeds] that Day will be the truth. So those whose scales are heavy – it is they who will be the successful. And those whose scales are light – they are the ones who will lose themselves for what injustice they were doing toward Our verses.” (Surah Araaf, ayat 8-9)

But what about those whose good and bad deeds will weigh exactly the same? 

According to ayat 46 of Surah Araaf, they will be at a place called “Araaf”. This place will be between jannah and jahannum and they will await their final verdict from Allah Azzawajall. 

This wait will be very long and very, very painful. 

Being at Araaf, they will be able to see both jannah and jahannum. When they will look towards jannah, they will yearn for with all their hearts. They will see the blessings they can have if Allah forgives them and decides to gift them a life in jannah. 

In their strong desire for jannah, they will see the people of jannah and call out to them “Asalam o Alaikum brothers and sisters!”. And yet, they will only be able to look at it with desperate longing. 

On the other side, will be jahannum. They will not like to look in that direction because it will be too painful to see. 

Yet, 

And when their eyes are turned toward the companions of the Fire, they say, “Our Lord, do not place us with the wrongdoing people.” (Surah Araaf, ayat 47)

The people of Araaf will be made to look towards the people of Jahannum. The word صُرِفَتۡ indicates that they are made to look in that direction.

When the people of Araaf will see jahannum, they will cry in front of their Lord and make dua that they are forgiven. They will pray to Allah that Allah may not place them with the people who sinned and ultimately because the ones who earned jahannum.

🌸 My inferences: 

Today, in the light of these ayat, I look at everything I do in my daily life and often think of doing that one good deed, no matter how small, will save me from standing on the Araaf. 

I also think if stopping myself from one bad deed, I can be saved from standing on the Araaf. 

When our deeds are weighed on the day of judgment, every small deed will matter. May be a smile I give to my mother will save me, may be removing a stone from a path will save me. 

On the other hand, may be holding my tongue when I want to talk back will save me. May be not thinking ill of someone will save me. 

The Araaf is a very painful place to be standing at. To be able to see jannah and what we could have had, had we been good is a longing we cannot imagine. 

To be able to see jahannum and having the fear loom over us that we could end up there, Allah forbid, is a fear like no other. 

May Allah make us of those whose good deeds outweigh the bad deeds. May Allah make us worthy of jannah. May Allah save us from standing on Araaf on the day of judgment. May Allah have mercy on us and may He forgive our deliberate and unintentional bad deeds. 

Ameen sum ameen.

‎اس رمضان المبارک کے انیسویں روز میں خوش آمدید۔

‎آج اور آنے والے کچھ دنوں میں ہم سورہ الاعراف کی چند آیات پر غور کریں گے۔

‎آیت 46 میں ارشاد ہوا ہے:

‎وَبَيۡنَهُمَا حِجَابٌ‌ۚ وَعَلَى الۡاَعۡرَافِ رِجَالٌ يَّعۡرِفُوۡنَ كُلاًّۢ بِسِيۡمٰٮهُمۡ‌ۚ وَنَادَوۡا اَصۡحٰبَ الۡجَـنَّةِ اَنۡ سَلٰمٌ عَلَيۡكُمۡ‌ (قف) لَمۡ يَدۡخُلُوۡهَا وَهُمۡ يَطۡمَعُوۡنَ

‎ان دونوں (یعنی بہشت اور دوزخ) کے درمیان (اعراف نامی) ایک دیوار ہو گی اور اعراف پر کچھ آدمی ہوں گے جو سب کو ان کی صورتوں سے پہچان لیں گے۔ تو وہ اہل بہشت کو پکار کر کہیں گے کہ تم پر سلامتی ہو۔ یہ لوگ بھی بہشت میں داخل تو نہیں ہوں گے مگر امید رکھتے ہوں گے

‎روزِ جزا ہمیں ہمارا نامۂ اعمال پڑھ کر سنایا جائے گا اور اس کے حساب سے اللہ تعالی ہمارا فیصلہ کریں گے۔ جن لوگوں کے نیک اعمال ان کے بد اعمال کے مقابلے میں زیادہ ہوں گے، ان کو اللہ کے حکم سے جنت میں داخل کر دیا جائے گا۔ جبکہ جن کے بد اعمال زیادہ ہوں گے، ان کو اللہ کے حکم سے جہنم میں ڈال دیا جائے گا۔

‎وَالۡوَزۡنُ يَوۡمَٮِٕذِ ۨالۡحَـقُّ‌ۚ فَمَنۡ ثَقُلَتۡ مَوَازِيۡنُهٗ فَاُولٰۤٮِٕكَ هُمُ الۡمُفۡلِحُوۡنَ

‎وَمَنۡ خَفَّتۡ مٰوزِيۡنُهٗ فَاُولٰۤٮِٕكَ الَّذِيۡنَ خَسِرُوۡۤا اَنۡفُسَهُمۡ بِمَا كَانُوۡا بِاٰيٰتِنَا يَظۡلِمُوۡنَ (آیات 8، 9)

‎اور اس روز (اعمال کا) تُلنا برحق ہے تو جن لوگوں کے (عملوں کے) وزن بھاری ہوں گے وہ تو نجات پانے والے ہیں۔

‎اور جن کے وزن ہلکے ہوں گے تو یہی لوگ ہیں جنہوں نے اپنے تئیں خسارے میں ڈالا اس لیے کہ ہماری آیتوں کے بارے میں بےانصافی کرتے تھے۔

‎لیکن کچھ لوگ ایسے بھی ہوں گے جن کے نیک اور بد اعمال برابر ہوں گے۔ 

‎آیت 46 کے مطابق یہ لوگ الاعراف نام کے مقام پر ٹھہرا دئیے جائیں گے۔ یہ مقام جنت اور جہنم کے درمیان ہو گا جہاں سے یہ لوگ اہلیانِ جنت اور اہلیانِ جہنم کو دیکھ اور پہچان سکیں گے۔ یہ لوگ یہاں تب تک ٹھہریں گے جب تک اللہ کی طرف سے ان کے لئے جنت یا جہنم میں داخل ہونے کا حکم نہیں آ جاتا۔

‎یہ انتظار بہت طویل اور اس سے بھی زیادہ تکلیف دہ ہو گا۔

‎یہ لوگ جنت کی طرف دیکھیں گے۔ جنت اور اہلیانِ جنت کو دیکھ کر یہ لوگ تڑپ اٹھیں گے۔ وہاں وہ ان نعمتوں کا نظارہ کریں گے جن کے حقدار وہ بھی ہو سکیں گے اگر اللہ تعالی کا فیصلہ ان کے حق میں آ جائے۔

‎کیونکہ اگر ایسا نہیں ہوتا، اس صورت میں ان کی جو منزل ہو گی، اس بارے میں سوچنا بھی ان کے لئے نہایت دہشتناک ہو گا۔ جہنم کا منظر ان کی نظروں کے سامنے ہو گا۔ لیکن اس طرف دیکھنا بہت ہی تکلیف دہ ہو گا۔

‎وَاِذَا صُرِفَتۡ اَبۡصَارُهُمۡ تِلۡقَآءَ اَصۡحٰبِ النَّارِۙ قَالُوۡا رَبَّنَا لَا تَجۡعَلۡنَا مَعَ الۡقَوۡمِ الظّٰلِمِيۡنَ‏ (آیت 47)

‎اور جب ان کی نگاہیں اہل دوزخ کی طرف پھیر دی جائیں گی تو عرض کریں گے کہ اے ہمارے پروردگار ہم کو ظالم لوگوں کے ساتھ شامل نہ کیجیو۔

‎یہاں پر لفظ “صُرِفَتۡ” سے معلوم ہوتا ہے کہ ان کی نظریں جہنم کی طرف پھیر دی جائیں گی۔

‎جہنم کا نظارہ دیکھ کر وہ بےاختیار رو پڑیں گے اور رب کے حضور معافی اور رحم کی التجا کریں گے۔

‎ان آیات کو سمجھنے کے بعد ہمیں جان لینا چاہئے کہ ایک نیکی کی کیا اہمیت ہے۔ چھوٹی ہی سہی، لیکن کوئی ایک نیکی ہمیں اعراف پر کھڑے ہو کر، خوف و کرب اور ایک طویل انتظار کی اذیت سے بچا سکتی ہے۔ اسی طرح کوئی ایک گناہ بھی، خواہ معمولی ہی سہی، ہمارے خلاف فیصلہ کروا سکتا ہے۔

‎جب ہمارے اعمال کا وزن کیا جا رہا ہو گا، اس وقت ایک ایک نیکی ہمارے لئے انمول ہو گی۔ کوئی ایک ایسی نیکی، جسے ہم معمولی سمجھتے رہے ہوں، ہماری نجات کا ذریعہ بن سکتی ہے۔

‎کسی کو مسکرا کر سلام کاجواب دینا، کسی کے راستے سے کانٹا ہٹا دینا، کسی وقت اپنے غصے پر قابو پانے کی کوشش، کسی کے لئے دل سے دعا کر دینا، شاید ایسا کوئی کام ہمیں کامیابی دلا دے۔

‎اعراف میں کھڑے ہو کر فیصلے کا انتظار کرنا درحقیقت بہت تکلیف دہ ہو گا۔ جب جنت جیسی پرکشش اور روح پرور جگہ اور جہنم جیسا دل دہلا دینے والا منظر، دونوں نظروں کے سامنے ہوں گے اور کچھ علم نہیں ہو گا کہ ان میں سے ہمارے مقدر میں کیا ہو گا۔

‎اللہ ہمیں روز قیامت انتظار کی اذیت اور رسوائی کی ذلت سے محفوظ فرمائے۔ اللہ ہمیں توفیق دے کہ دنیا کی زندگی سے آخرت کی بہترین تیاری کر سکیں۔ اللہ ہمارے اور ہمارے والدین کے دانستہ اور غیر دانستہ گناہوں کو معاف فرمائے۔
