Welcome to Day 7 of the Ramzan Series 2020. We are the Hijri 1441 of the Islamic calendar.

Today we will talk about “zulm” and “zaalim”.

In our daily connotation, “zaalim” is someone who commits a crime from a place of power and privilege and this act of crime is usually done against someone weaker.

If you search out the meaning of “zaalim” in English, it will be on the lines of cruel or merciless.

The Quran talks about “zaalimeen” over and over again. When we take the meaning of zaalim in Urdu or English, we fail to understand the correct concept of so many of the ayah that talk about “zaalimeen”.

In Arabic, and specifically in the context of Quranic Arabic, zaalim is someone who does not pay the due where it is due.

Then, according to this definition, who is the biggest zaalim?

For example, Allah says in the Quran:

‎وَ نُنَزِّلُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ ما هُوَ شِفاءٌ وَ رَحْمَةٌ لِلْمُؤْمِنينَ وَ لا يَزيدُ الظَّالِمينَ إِلاَّ خَساراً
“And We are sending down, of the Qur’an, that which is a cure and a mercy to the believers; and it increases the unjust in nothing except in greater loss.” (17: 82)

The word الظَّالِمينَ was translated in English as “unjust”.

The disbelievers are referred to as Dhalimeen due to the inner trait of being unjust to themselves by not following their natural instinct bestowed by Allah (swt.) So a person who doesn’t believe in Allah swt is unjust because he is going against the natural instinct with which he was created. Moreover, the disbelievers commit a crime against themselves too by not following the commands of Allah and ultimately earning His Anger and Wrath.

The Quran says that the biggest zaalim is the one who commits shirk. Now that you know what the meaning of zaalim is, you can understand why someone who commits shirks is the biggest zaalim.

The reason is this: when a person commits shirk, he denies the right of Allah which is, to accept Him as the Only Illah. Someone who denies Allah of His Rightful Place is indeed the most unjust. He not only commits a crime in front of Allah, but commits injustice towards his own self also by denying to see the truth.

May Allah make us those who are never unjust. May we be the ones who give right where it is due.

‎اس رمضان المبارک کے ساتویں روز میں خوش آمدید۔۔

‎ہمارا آج کا موضوع ہے ظلم اور ظالم۔

‎ظالم کا روایتی اور عام فہم مطلب ہے ایک ایسا شخص جو کسی بھی قسم کی طاقت اور اختیار کا ناجائز استعمال کرتے ہوئے کسی قسم کے جرم کا مرتکب ہو، اور عموما اس کا نشانہ کوئی کمزور ہوتا ہے۔

‎قرآن میں “ظالمین” کا تذکرہ متعدد مقامات پر کیا گیا ہے۔ اگر ہم اوپر بیان کئے گئے ظالم کے عام فہم مطلب کو ہی دھیان میں رکھیں تو ان بے شمار آیات کا، جن میں ظالمین کا ذکر کیا گیا ہے، درست مفہوم کبھی سمجھ نہیں پائیں گے۔

‎عربی زبان اور بالخصوص قرآنی عربی میں ظالم کا مطلب ہے حقدار کو اسکا حق نہ دینے والا، ناانصافی کرنے والا۔

‎اس تشریح کے مطابق کون ہے سب سے بڑا ظالم؟

‎مثال کے طور پر، اللہ تعالی نے قرآن میں فرمایا:

‎وَ نُنَزِّلُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ ما هُوَ شِفاءٌ وَ رَحْمَةٌ لِلْمُؤْمِنينَ وَ لا يَزيدُ الظَّالِمينَ إِلاَّ خَساراً
‎یہ قرآن جو ہم نازل کر رہے ہیں، مومنوں کے لئے تو سراسر شفا اور رحمت ہے، مگر ظالموں کے لئے خسارے کے سوا کسی چیز میں اضافہ نہیں کرتا

‎یہاں پر الظالمین کا صحیح مفہوم ہے حقدار کو اس کے حق سے محروم کرنے والا، نا انصافی کرنے والا۔

‎جو لوگ ایمان نہیں لائے، ان کو ظالمین کہا گیا ہے، کیونکہ انہوں نے اپنے بنیادی رجحان اور فطرت کے خلاف جا کر خود کی حق تلفی کی۔ گویا وہ شخص جو اللہ کو نہیں مانتا، وہ یوں ظالم ہے کہ اس نے خود کو اپنے اس بنیادی حق سے محروم کر دیا جس کے ساتھ اللہ نے اس کو تخلیق کیا تھا۔ یہی نہیں، بلکہ اللہ کے احکامات کی حکم عدولی کر کے، اللہ کی ناراضگی اور بالاخر عذاب الہی کا حقدار بن کر بھی خود کے ساتھ انتہائی درجے کی ناانصافی کر بیٹھا۔

‎قرآن کے مطابق ظلم کی انتہا شرک ہے، اور سب سے زیادہ ظالم وہ ہے جو شرک کرے۔ ظالم کا حقیقی مفہوم جان لینے کے بعد یہ سمجھنا اتنا مشکل نہیں کہ اللہ نے شرک کرنے والے کو سب سے زیادہ ظالم کیوں قرار دیا۔

‎وجہ یہ ہے کہ جب ایک شخص شرک کا مرتکب ہوتا ہے، تو وہ اللہ کے معبود واحد ہونے کے حق کو تسلیم کرنے سے انکار کرتا ہے۔ اور جو اللہ کے ہی حق کا منکر ہے، اس سے زیادہ ظالم کون ہو سکتا ہے۔ ایسا شخص نہ صرف اللہ کا مجرم ہے، بلکہ خود کو حقیقت اور سچ سے محروم رکھ کر اپنی ذات کے ساتھ ناانصافی کا ارتکاب بھی کرتا ہے۔

‎اللہ ہمیں حقدار کو اسکا حق دینے کی، اور ظلم اور ناانصافی سے دور رہنے کی توفیق عطا کرے۔
